We lead busy lives today, constantly running to and from work, to and from our children's schools and activities.
Not to mention to and from the store to go shopping and perform other errands.
I don't know why every day seems to have less in it than they did 50 years ago, but it's true.
Yet we're also growing heavier and heavier, and therefore, because of these two trends, diet bars are increasingly popular.
They're supposed to help you lose weight, they're so convenient you can eat them while driving in your car (I've eaten many that way), are less expensive than a fast-food meal and, with any luck, taste good.
There're many different brands and varieties: Garden of Life Perfect Food Bar, CytoSport Muscle, Cocoa Cherry StandardBar®, Weider Tigers Milk Bars, Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex High Protein Food Bar, EAS Myoplex Carb Sense Nutrition Bar, Herbalife Protein Bars, Power Crunch, Soyjoy All Natural Fruit and Soy Nutritional Bar, Chef Jays Trioplex Brownie, Dr. Smoothie Bio Bar-Delayed Glycemic Response, Tri-O-Plex, Hi Protein Bar, Clif Bars Kid Twisted Fruit Strawberry, Advantage S'Mores Bar from Atkins, FullBar Weight Loss Bars, Biogenesis Nutraceuticals Crispy Rice Biogenesis MacroNutrient Bar, Chocolate Mudslide Think Thin Protein Bars, Lean Body Gold Bar by Labrada, AllerEnergy Cherry Blossom Gluten-Free, Glucerna Snack Bar, Garden Of Life Organic Perfect Food Bar, and Perma-Lean Chocolate Crunch Bars.
Think Thin nutrition energy bars contain 20 grams of protein and only 2 effective grams of carbohydrates. But total carbohydrates are 25 grams. They're also gluten free. One bar is 60 grams which is about 20% larger than the average size of 50 grams for menu bars.

Living Foods, of Garden of Life, has a line of organic whole food bars. They contain organically grown whole foods including fruits, vegetables, nuts and sprouts. They even include live probiotics to encourage the growth of friendly bacteria in your intestine. I've never seen that in any other protein or meal bar!
They're sweetened with honey. Each bar is 64 grams (2.25 ounces), which is considerably larger than most nutrition or food bars. They contain 21 organic vegetables, and include 5 or 6 grams of fiber. Each bar contains 240 calories. 6 grams of fat, only 6 grams of protein and a whopping 40 grams of carbohydrates.
Therefore, these bars are far from Zone-favorable. They're not for people on Dr. Barry Sears' Zone diet unless you also eat a protein food alone with them, such as a piece of string cheese or a dish of cottage cheese.
Flavors include Organic Perfect Food ® Chocolate Covered Greens Bar Chocolate Raspberry Greens, Organic Perfect Food® Whole Foods Greens BarRed Raspberry, Organic Fruits of Life® Whole Food Antioxidant† Matrix Bar Summer Berry, and Organic Super Seed Apple Cinnamon.
They're complicated named because each is a different kind of bar, not just a different flavor.
EAS is a major player in the bodybuilding world thanks to the BODY FOR LIFE books written by its owner to promote his line of supplements. Their line includes: AdvantEDGE® Carb Control Nutrition Bar, Myoplex® Lite Nutrition Bar, Myoplex® Carb Control Bar, Myoplex® Deluxe Bar, and Myoplex® Mass Bar.
You can choose from a large variety of diet bars.
